Brimfield High School

Description: My time at BHS consisted of 8 weeks of full time teaching in various art classes. My class load included Art 1, Advanced Drawing, Mixed Media, and Ceramics 2 with students ranging from 9th-12th grade.

While at BHS I focused on building connections with students, and solidifying my expectations as a teacher. This was a great opportunity to practice and refine my teaching philosophy.

I also spent time working on finding balance between teaching, prepping, and grading. I established helpful routines and adopted some of my CT's management tools to better organize my classroom.

Rationale:

My lessons at BHS were focused on what materials they had not used or elements they had not yet practiced. I focused my efforts on giving the students the best possible learning experience I could provide. The range of classes and ages allowed me to grow as an educator and properly prepare for classes while remaining flexible.

Brimfield Grade School

Description: My 8 weeks students teaching at BGS included Pre-K through 8th Grade. All of which were entry level classes, as BGS never had an art program before this year. I saw Pre-K-4th once a week, and 5th-8th every other day. I focused on time management, organization, and instruction in my lessons while working in the elementary school. I spent my time organizing and reflecting on lesson outcomes to developed the best way to provide bite size information that will guarantee success for the majority of the class.

Rationale: When teaching at the high school I felt I needed to spend more time breaking down big ideas. I used my time at the elementary school as an opportunity to practice delivering information in the possible manner for the benefit of the class. I also spent time practicing and further developing management and organization skills. Daily practice with short classes and a larger amount of students than I was previously used to was a great experience for me to grow as an educator.

Description:

Helped organize art work and hand out awards at the Prairieland High School Art Conference.

Rationale:

Attending Prairieland Art Conference as a teacher provided me the opportunity to come full circle as an educator. I attended Prairieland as a student in high school with my own artwork on display and jumped for the opportunity to attend as a teacher.

It was very helpful to see the teacher side of how voting, scoring, and awards work behind the scenes. Since I plan on staying in the area to teach I will most likely end up taking my students to Prairieland one day and now know what to expect on the educator side of it.
